    Regina N'Doufou Yaou was born in 1955 in Dabou in Ivory Coast. Regina was brought up by her maternal aunt who was a midwife. She went to the grammar school in Abidjan and then to the Collège Voltaire and, when she was eighteen, went to the Cocody Technical School. After a break of several years, she then studied at the University of Tours, where she obtained a 'General Studies Diploma. Regina Yaou has travelled extensively in Europe and in the United States. She lives in Abidjan but is currently doing some research in the US (2006).

    La Citadine [The City Dweller]. This unpublished work won the prize for the best short story in a competition organised by the publishers Nouvelles Editions Africaines in Abidjan.

    A young woman leaves her village to continue her studies in Abidjan, but fate is against her.

    Koffi takes a mistress and leaves the family home, but worse is to come for his wife. When her husband dies, his avaricious relatives descend on her and deprive her of her inheritance.

    When a young agricultural engineer returns home at the end of his studies, he falls in love with a young woman from one of Abidjan's upper classes, but in accordance with his mother's wishes, he marries a girl from his village. He then decides to stay in the village, but he stirs up a lot of jealous feelings when he decides to build a comfortable house on his mother's property and finds himself hindered by a most powerful witchcraft.
