Aïssatou BARRY

    Aïssatou Barry was born in Forécariah (Guinea) in 1959. A Veterinarian, she trained at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (FAMEV) at Mamou and the Institute of Agro-Zoology at Foulaya (Kindia) before specialising in Cooperative Management in Canada. Since 1984 she has been head of Community Development in the Ministry for Fisheries and Livestock. She works in collaboration with other organisations such as the U.N. Food and Agriculture Organisation and the EBERT Foundation.

    In 1993 she published her first literary work on the political leaders of Guinea, Qui sont ces hommes qui veulent nous gouverner ? [Who are these men who want to govern us ?]. The Universe of Women is her first venture into poetry. Two other titles which examine the problems of contemporary society, due for publication in the near future, are Liens de mariage [Bonds of marriage] and Itinéraire d'enseignante [The path of a female teacher].
