Ivorian-born Khadi Sy Bizet spent her childhood in Abidjan together with her five brothers and sisters. In her book Le Livre de la beauté noire, she wrote : "My father came from an upper-class family in Mali. He studied medecine in Dakar and later, in France, specialising in immunology. He was instrumental in setting-up the first blood bank in Ivory Coast; it was there that he met my mother." (p.14) Following in the footsteps of her father, Khadi Sy Bizet became a medical doctor. After a brief stay in Madagascar and then Ivory Coast, where she specialised in plastic surgery, she moved to France: she has lived and worked there ever since. (2007)
