    Marie Dô was born and brought up in France where, according to her semi autobiographical novel, her complexion – inherited from a father she did not know – made life very tough. Finding solace in dance, she later joined the Ballets Jazz in Montreal, Canada, and later the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater in New York, USA. She has also worked as an actor for the theatre and the film industry.
