Valérie finds it increasingly intolerable that she is childless. She feels abandoned by her husband every time he leaves on business and, when left alone, she suffers even more. She consults the best specialists and, after several years, finally manages to become pregnant. She is dealt a brutal blow when a miscarriage puts an end to her pregnancy. She then becomes very depressed and to recover, she goes to Paris to stay with her sister-in-law.
