Aïssatou Thiam hails from Martinique on her mother's side and Senegal on her father's. She was born in Dakar in 1966 and grew up in Marseilles. She began modelling in her home town and soon worked for the stars of the 1980's world of fashion : Yves Saint Laurent, Thierry Mugler, Paco Rabanne, Dior, Givenchy et al. In the meantime, Aïssatou Thiam embarked on a successful acting career in theatre, film and television. Aïssatou Thiam's passion for sport led her to engage in many physical activities such as rafting, climbing, scuba-diving, snow and water skiing, Thai boxing and horse riding : that pursuits testify to her dynamism and somewhat daring nature. She also ran some theatre workshops for youths and enjoyed the experience. The recent publication of her autobiography, « Un Grand éclat de rire » [A great burst of laughter] with Marc Tardieu, opened new avenues of activities she would like to pursue further. (From the author's biography mentioned in her website https://www.aissatouthiam.com/)
