AUTOBIOGRAPHY 1950-1994 |
Born in Cannes in 1918, Anne Spoerry joined the French Resistance in 1939 and was later imprisoned in Ravensbrück's concentration camp. After her release, she qualified in Tropical Medicine and, in 1948, sailed for Aden. After working there for the Ministry of Health, she visited Ethiopia and then Kenya. In 1950, she decided to stay and began working as a local G.P. After Kenya's Independence, she learnt to fly and joined the African Medical and Research Foundation, first as a volunteer and since 1964 as a member of staff, using her flying skills in taking medicine to the North of Kenya. She was in charge of the Mobile Medical Unit working in Kajiado District. Her autobiography was published in 1994. Anne Spoerry passed away in 1999.
