Mrs. Marie-Pauline Thorbecke joined a German expedition to Cameroon as an illustrator. The aim of the party was to better understand German colonial society and to further their geographical and ethnological knowledge of the area. The group arrived in Duala in November 1911 and embarked on a comprehensive tour of the colony, dutifuly recorded by Mrs Thorbecke in her travel log, complete with pictures, drawings and details about the progress of the expedition, the people encountered, their habits and culture, etc. |
