This biography of Albert Schweitzer was written by Marie Woytt-Secretan, one of his collaborators in Gabon. A short overview of Schweitzer's life prior to his leaving for Africa highlights his success as a theologian and musician. This is followed by a firsthand account of Schweitzer's life in Lambaréné , the drama surrounding his house arrest and eventual expulsion from Gabon by the French who interned him during WWI, his return to his hospital after the war, his untiring efforts to find the funds necessary to keep the place afloat. This books was published in 1947 : Schweitzer died in 1965.
