HISTORICAL ACCOUNT 1582-1663 |
Anne Zingha was the daughter of Zingha-n-Bandi-Angola, the eighth King of Matamba. She was born in 1582, well educated and took a great interest in the affairs of her country, especially when her broher was crowned. On his behalf, she negotiated a truce with the Portuguese who had designs on the kingdom. Anne Zingha became Queen on the death of her brother and remained in power until her own death, aged 82. Her long reign was marked by an uncompromising management of the kingdom's affairs and shrewd answers to the Portuguese demands, religious and political. |
