Philomène Isabelle Mandeng, whose married name is Bassek, teaches philosophy. She was born in 1957 in Dschang, a town in the Western part of Cameroon. Her parents come from Makak and Otele and her father was a solicitor's clerk. She studied at Yaoundé University. She has been living in Yaoundé with her family since the end of 1970. She has three sons.
