Mambou Aimee Gnali is the Minster of Culture in Brazzaville [2002]. In the Preface to the work "Beto na Beto", Henri Lopes writes (p.7) : "Born under colonisation, Mambou Aimˇe Gnali came to France at a very young age. The first Congolese women to gain baccalaureat level she was, in the 1950s, one of a rare group of female students of her native land. Her return trips to her home-land were to be less frequent. To soothe our feelings of nostalgia, we draw closer together. ... Among the student group, where there was feverish support in favour of independence, they welcomed her with an amused smile. Aimˇe had too much strength of character and understanding to avoid any trace of condescension: she was very different. She was, no doubt, not the only person to gain entry to these circles, but she was the only one, sufficiently able and willing, by virtue of her intelligence and personality.
