AUTOBIOGRAPHY     –     1941-1964
This autobiography covers Nafissatou Diallo's life from the early 1940s until the mid 1960s. It gives a penetrating account of life in a large polygamous family in Dakar during those years. Nafissatou Diallo lost her mother when aged only one, but became very close to her grandmother and her father who she loved and admired. The lively little girl described in the first part of the book grew up to become an inquisitive teenager and eventually a qualified nurse who had nothing but praise for the education and opportunities she was given both at home and at school. Well integrated in a caring environment, mindful of traditional life and family religious beliefs, she has no qualms in adapting readily to French ways and culture.
