AUTOBIOGRAPHY     –    1906-1942
Beryl Markham arrived in East Africa with her father in 1906, aged four. She passed away in Kenya in 1986 after an adventurous life dominated by her passion for training racehorces and flying aeroplanes. Throughout the 1930s she carried mail, passengers and goods to remote East African locations and was also engaged in game spotting for safari hunters. In 1936 she was the first woman to cross the Atlantic solo from east to west. Her autobiography published in 1942 recounts her childhood on her father's farm, her many friends, her work as a licenced racehorse trainer and eventually, her becoming a very active professional pilot.
