Joséphine Kama Bongo (born Marie Joséphine Dabany) hails from Gabon. She became the "First Lady of Gabon" in 1967 when her husband Omar Bongo became President of the country. A leading member of her husband's Political Party, she created women's cultural groups throughout the country, promoting traditional chanting and dancing. After her divorce from President Bongo, she settled in the United States where she became a star of Gabonese music under the name of Patience Dabany. One of the highlights of her long and successful career was her concert in Paris' Olympia in 2001.
