Zarra GUIRO An author from Burkina Faso writing in French [Return to French Page originale en français] |
Fatimata Bintou Zahrahou Guiro was born in 1957 in Séguenega, a village in
the North of Burkina Faso. In 1979, she became a midwife and a family planning
advocate. "I am performing more than 300
deliveries per year, in very difficult conditions", she said in a short
autobiographical chapter included in Au pays de Zarra. Her autobiography Zarra, accoucheuse en Afrique (published in 1994) offers a wealth of details on her activities and provides a fascinating account of the life of an African midwife.
