    Inna HAMPATE BA GBATO was born in Bamako in 1962. She is the daughter of celabrated writer Amadou HAMPATE BA. She first went to school in Treichville, Ivory Coast, later to High School in Yamoussoukro and eventually enrolled at Bassam Teachers College from where she graduated and became a Primary Schoolteacher. She is the mother of five children. The death of one of them, killed by toxic waste, prompted her to write this collection of poems dedicated to his memory.
