Khady was born in Senegal in 1959. She grew up with her grandparents in the town of Thiès. At seven years of age she was circumcised and was married at 16 to a cousin who lived in France. Many pregnacies and a life of misery followed until she divorced her husband. Since 1980, she has been involved with the GAMS association, an organisation fighting female circumcision and traditions detrimental to the wellbeing of the African women of today.
