WEREWERE LIKING GNEPO An author from Cameroon and the Ivory Coast writing in French [Return to French Page originale en français] |
Werewere Liking Gnepo was born in Bondé, Cameroon, in 1950. She was raised by her paternal grandparents in a traditional environment. She has lived in the Ivory Coast since 1978.
Werewere Liking is to a large extent self-taught and she has taken an active interest in all of the arts, including writing, painting, theatre and the cinema. [Publications on various topics.] Her work bears a close relationship to real life and always incorporates important moments in her life. Her literary career is based on the Ki-Yi Mbock initiary movement, which she describes as "A movement for the rebirth of African arts, for the birth of a contemporary Panafrican culture and for a coming together, and recognition, of the cultures of the black world." She is a prolific author and has written in every genre. However, it is probably her work in theatre and in the Ki-Yi village community that has earned her an international reputation.
