    Mouna-Hodan was born in 1972 in Djibouti. She grew up and attended primary and secondary school in this country. Upon completing her tertiary education in France, she returned to Djibouti where she became a teacher of French in a local Lycˇe. Les enfants du khat is her first novel. It deals with the problems associated with the use of the drug called "khat" by large sections of Djibouti's population.
