    Past II:
from 1986 to 1995, more new voices

The general context of the country was marked by the following events:
    * The advent of multi-partyism in 1990 led to the creation of numerous newspapers which meant more press coverage for women writers.
    * The devaluation of the CFA franc in 1994 forced publishers and writers to adopt a strategy of making books attractive to readers.

    More specifically:

    * The collaboration between the two publishing houses' communication officers, journalists and women writers was reinforced.
    * Some women writers benefited from the support of various sponsors to participate in writers' workshops at regional and international levels. For instance: the United States Information Agency via the American Cultural Centre, the French Agency for Cultural and Technical Co-operation and today the Zimbabwe Women Writers Association.
Obviously the thrust initiated in the previous decade became stronger and resulted in a steady increase in the number of books written by women in spite of the persistent economic crisis. Women writers were now operating in a more favourable environment.

Between 1986 and 1995, 22 women writer's books were published.
